How do you show Alaska and Hawaii in a Dashboard?

Are you displaying a map in your dashboard and you have two states that are outside of the normal view? The use case I am referring to is displaying Alaska and Hawaii in a United States map.

The issue here is distortion. Alaska looks bigger than the United States.

Salesforce has a help article here where they display the two states as floating sheets on a dashboard.

I would recommend separating Alaska and Hawaii from the main map. I would duplicate the sheet and have separate maps for these states.

Floating Method

You could place both of these sheets on top of your map. This will require you to zoom out a little bit for your main map and to shrink down the sheets for both states as shown below.

Quick Tip: Remove the background layers of your map. Go to Map > Background Layers and uncheck the boxes for Base, Land Cover, etc. for each sheet. Additionally remove borders around the maps to get rid of the grey lines. You will get a much cleaner map view as shown below!

Container Method

You can lock the sheets into place with a vertical container next to the map. This will help users that are exporting your dashboard as a PDF or a PowerPoint. Floating is a great option for that use case. This method will require you to zoom out slightly with the main map and the Alaska map worksheet.

I added the borders back to the sheets to show you the difference. I experience some issues with borders as shown below. The Hawaii map on the bottom is missing the border on the bottom.

The other thing I would recommend about maps is to remove the controls for the user in Map > Map Options, uncheck the box for Allow Pan and Zoom. This will lock the view for the user.

Advanced Method

You could also do a collapsible container with a button to hide these two states as described in my previous blog post here.
